Proposed Bill Would Put All EMTs Under State Control

Establishing a single professional standard, advocates argue, would guarantee that all patients receive a uniform level of care.

The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee has passed a bill that would hold all of the state's emergency medical services -- including EMTs -- to a single professional standard. It would also put the New Jersey Department of Health in charge of all EMS statewide. The proposed measure changes the status quo in several ways, requiring, for instance, that volunteer EMTs be licensed and that they pass background checks. Enough already! Ems in NJ is broken and has needed to be fixed from day one. Once the politicians cow towed to the " volunteers" who circled the capital with their ambulances afraid that the higher level paramedics would steal "their patients" it was over. The NJSFAC learned a good lesson that day...there is power in numbers. The NJSFAC has stifled progress in EMS ever since for their own self …   more ›

911 Emergency Care Bill to Get a Second Look

Christie conditionally vetoes licenses and criminal checks for EMS workers -- lawmakers say they will look at costs in new session.

A bill that would provide first aid to the state's emergency medical services was conditionally vetoed on Monday by Gov. Chris Christie. Christie cited the bill's potential cost and directed the NJ Department of Health to study the licensure issue. East Windsor Township Honors Members of Rescue Squads

Mayor Janice S. Mironov bestowed proclamations to two exemplary township emergency members at the township council meeting last Thursday.

The Township Council honored two members of the township’s volunteer rescue squad on Thursday night for their continued, round-the-clock exemplary service. Mayor Janice S. Mironov bestowed two proclamations, on behalf of the Township Council and the entire municipality, to Kiera Behen, 27, of East Windsor Rescue Squad District 1 and Donna Feldhaus, 29, of District 2 at the June 9 meeting. “This is always such a wonderful occasion to honor members who are willing to dedicate their time and put in the training to serve the community in such an excellent fashion,” said Mayor Mironov as she presented Behen with a framed proclamation in front of the members of both squads. Behen has served on the municipalities’ first squad since 2004, and has …
