Mom Doesn't Anticipate Start of School Year

Summer’s end isn’t a welcome event for columnist.

While some moms may be anxiously counting down the days until the first day of school, I am not. I am a mom who loves having her kids at home over the summer. Sure, there have been times when I’ve had to burn the candle from both ends to get in writing time and to get around-the-house chores completed. There have been days when my kids have been cranky or bored, pestering me about what we can do that day. But, I am sure going to feel not just a little sad when they return to school just after Labor Day. I’ve been enjoying my time with my girls, especially as they’ve enjoyed new sights and experiences over the summer. They’ve taken baking, art, gardening and music classes at camp, and we traveled as a family to Washington, D.C. I love …

Clearing House

Necessity helps mom's columnist declutter home.

It is surprising how much you can get done when the motivation is big, or you need to get something done. Just this week, the Patch Moms Council, of which I am a member, shared our insights on how we conquer clutter in the home. While many of the moms on the council hold the enviable position of owning what sounds like tidy, clutter-free homes, I confessed in the column that my house is a mess. My house has tons of clutter, and although I am constantly working to vanquish it, I can never seem to get a handle on it. On Wednesday, the day that the column published, I went out for dinner with my daughters and a friend of mine and her daughter to celebrate my friend’s birthday.
