Knifepoint Robbery, Man Accused of Sexually Assault in Top Local News

A review of the week's top stories.

A 43-year-old man was captured on camera performing oral sex on a 15-year-old boy near Peddie Lake in Hightstown Sunday night, according to police. My first day on the job a local store was robbed at gunpoint, and Hightstown approved replacing the police chief position with a police director. Less than two weeks later Hurricane Irene struck the region, pouring several feet of water into the area.  A man was robbed at knifepoint early Sunday on Twin Rivers Drive in East Windsor, according to authorities. Winemaking is nothing, if not an experiment – from the first seed sewn to the final corking of a bottle. Celebrity chef Bobby Flay was at MarketFair Mall Tuesday, personally opening his fourth New Jersey location of Bobby’s Burger Palace.

Bacteria in Drinking Water, Drunk Driving Crack Down in Top Local News

Hightstown residents will receive a hand-delivered notification this week after bacteria was found in the drinking water last month, officials said. Cranbury police will be cracking down on drunk drivers as part of the 2012 “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign beginning Friday. In time for Cranbury Day and the start of classes,Princeton Ballet School will reopen after undergoing renovations, including updating the building’s façade, according to the school. Before the end of the year East Windsor will have a new red light camera at the intersection of Route 130 and Route 571, according to the township and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.  Police are looking for a man who robbed the East Windsor TD Bank  Thursday night.  Hightstown’s Borough Council passed a taxi-licensing ordinance with a 4-2 vote Monday that clears the way for five companies and an unlimited number of cabs to be licensed in the Borough. Hightstown police teamed up with several local businesses to expand National Night Out this year.  Police, fire and rescue squads set up at the East Windsor Police Athletic League fields for National Night Out on Tuesday night. Coffee Shop Expanding, Man Exposes Himself, Escapee Sentenced in Local News

A review of the week's top stories.

Police are looking for a man who exposed himself to a woman and a girl near Etra Park last week. The owner of International Roasting Post swore he would never run a café and solely got in the business for the coffee, but less than a year after opening, he has changed his mind. The East Windsor man who led police on a six-hour search after kicking out the window of a police car and escaping was sentenced to three years in prison on Monday, according to court records.  Firefighters had to cut a man from a wrecked BMW after he ran a stop sign and slammed into a utility truck at the intersection of Route 33 and Airport Road Monday, officials said. Two Hightstown police officers were recognized for taking drunk drivers off the road in 2011.  …

A newly drafted taxi ordinance that does not limit the number of cabs that can be licensed within Hightstown was introduced Monday with a tie-breaking vote by the mayor. Following months of planning and presentations, a Boy Scout working toward becoming an Eagle Scout received final town approval to move forward building a gazebo in Association Park.  A man was assaulted and robbed Saturday in the parking lot at the Windsor Regency Apartments in East Windsor, according to police. Three locations in town may soon be designated as taxi stands, if the council approves an ordinance after a public hearing. A Newark man who pulled a gun on a Welsh Farms employee and stole more than $14,700from the convenience store last August has been caught, according to police. A new liquor store will be opening in East Windsor this fall, in the former Randall’s Furniture location on Route 130. A Hightstown representative for the East Windsor Regional School District's Board of Education has resigned, and the board is accepting applications to fill the vacant seat. East Windsor’s new police chief was sworn in Sunday and said he will continue to emphasize education and training within the department. A Hightstown funeral director is accused of stealing $513,766 from an elderly relative, according to the Hightstown Borough Police Department. Week in Review: East Windsor Police Chief Retires, Gunshot Fired in Hightstown

A review of the week's top stories.

East Windsor Police Chief’s colleges, friends and family celebrated his retirement and recognized his tenure at the department.  A gunshot was fired while two robbers attempted to steal a man’s car at the Deerfield Apartment complex Wednesday night, according to Hightstown Police. The Route 33 bridge project scheduled to start Thursday has been pushed back until next week, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Seven unlocked cars were burglarized last week in East Windsor between Tuesday and Friday, according to police.  With vegetation increasing throughout Brainerd Lake in Cranbury, a company has been called in to remove specific plants that could eventually deplete oxygen in the water, according to officials.

Week in Review: Alleged Custody Battle Months Before Abduction, New Coffee Business

The man charged with kidnapping his five-year-old grandson from a West Windsor apartment complex posted a YouTube video six months ago asking for help to keep his grandson from child services. Hightstown’s mayor said Monday that council members were not being transparent by introducing two resolutions about the future of Borough Hall at the start of a past meeting, and questioned whether open public meeting laws were violated when the resolutions were drafted. Week in Review: Class of 2012 Graduates, Police Say Teen Set House on Fire

A review of the week's top stories.

A 15-year-old male was charged after setting a fire in the closet of the master bedroom at a Conover Road house Wednesday afternoon, according to police. Parents, friends and family members gathered Thursday night for Hightstown High School’s 98th annual commencement at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton.
