Longtime french teacher among retirees

At the May 14 meeting of the Cranbury Board of Education a group of longtime teaches and administrators were recognized for their work in the district before their retirements at the end of the year.  French teacher Michele Guye will wrap up her time at the school in June as will Learning Disability Consultant Deborah Canciello, Supervisor of Child Study Isabelle Perry and Basic Skills teacher Marie Mattes.  The soon to be retirees will also be recognized by the PTO at a Retirement Gathering which is set to be held on June 13 at 3:15 in the Large Group Room.  For the latest information on events, activities and news at the school be sure to check out their monthly newsletter.

Viking Volunteers Help County Food Drive

Middle school students lead student effort

For more than a decade students at the Cranbury School have been taking part in the Middlesex County Spring Food Drive. This year they not only took part in the event but also finished as one of the "top collectors" in the effort.  It took the work of more than a dozen of the older children in the school but after several weeks of work they collected enough cans to build a ship to represent their Viking spirit. The ship was built using more than 700 cans and measured a whopping 12-foot-long by 5-foot-long according to the county. The ship was displayed prominently after it was completed near the new gym in the school.  After finishing out of the top 30 just last year the Cranbury students worked their way into the top 20 with a 19th place …

Cranbury Students Among Highest Achievers

The Results from State School Report Cards show that students in the K-8 school are above average when compared to others.

In the first year of a new evaluation system put in place by the New Jersey Department of Education, Cranbury School's academic performance rated as very high when compared to schools across the state and to schools with similar demographics. “These new school performance reports were developed with the input of stakeholders across the state and provide a significant amount of new data to present a more complete picture of school performance,” said Commissioner Chris Cerf. “We hope this data will help schools and stakeholders engage in local goal setting and improvement to help all students graduate from high school ready for college and career.” The NJ School Performance reports for 2011-12 includes new data on college and career …

Time to Register for Kindergarten

Cranbury School kindergarten registration is Feb. 20.

If you have a young one ready for school, the time to register for kindergarten is nearly here. Cranbury School kindergarten registration will is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. in the Large Group Room. Children do not need to attend. Students must be 5 years old by Oct. 1, 2013 to attend kindergarten in the fall. If you have not informed the school that you will have a child attending kindergarten in the fall, please call 609-395-1700, ext. 225 or 224 before Feb. 19.

After-School Activities Canceled at The Cranbury School

Princeton High School after-school activities have also been canceled.

All after-school and evening activities at The Cranbury School have been canceled. After-school and evening activities at Princeton High School are also canceled for today. However, Before and After School Care (BASC) will remain open, an alert on the The Cranbury School website indicated. If BASC needs to close early due to the weather, the BASC officials will contact parents directly.

East Windsor and Cranbury Schools Remain Closed on MLK Day

Both districts did not decide to hold school on Martin Luther King Day as many other districts decided post-Sandy.

Despite some school districts changing Martin Luther King, Jr. Day from a day off to a school day, the East Windsor Regional Schools will remain closed on Monday, Jan. 21. The Cranbury Township School District, which represents children within the Cranbury School, will also continue to be off on Martin Luther King Day. A number of the school districts in the surrounding areas decided to hold school on the Martin Luther King and President's Day national holidays as a result of the the exorbitant amount of days off from lack of power and damage brought on by Superstorm Sandy. Cranbury School District to Receive Money Following Superstorm Sandy

Cranbury school district could be reimbursed up to $10,000

  Cranbury school district will receive money from a New Jersey insurance fund for damage from Superstorm Sandy, according to representatives of the School Alliance Insurance Coverage Fund. The district is a member of SAIF, which recently received $5 million from Lexington Insurance Co. as a prepayment for losses that could eventually total $20 million statewide, according to Stephanie Voorhees, SAIF chairwoman. “The schools desperately need these funds,” said Voorhees. “This is by far the most catastrophic damage we’ve ever seen in New Jersey. Our hearts go out to all the schools, children, teachers and parents impacted by Sandy. A lot of work needs to be done, and we’re happy to be part of the rebuilding effort.” Checks will be …

Schools Open Monday

Cranbury and East Windsor schools are open Monday, with modifications for some

Five East Windsor Regional School District schools have power, but Melvin H. Kreps School still does not, according to an announcement by the district. Like many in East Windsor, district officials are unsure when power will be restored to the middle school. However, school will be in session, with some modifications. The elementary schools will follow the regular schedule. Hightstown High School will have a 1/2 session day on Monday and middle school students will have their classes in the high school in the afternoon. High school students must report to school by 7:25 a.m. and will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Kreps middle school students will begin their 1/2 session day at 10:45 a.m. at the high school. Save the Old School Committee Honored By Township

The committee worked to save the Old School building, which now houses Cranbury’s Town Hall

The Cranbury Township Committee and Mayor David Cook passed a resolution during Monday’s township committee meeting conveying their gratitude to the Save the Old School Committee. The committee worked to save the building from being torn down and raised funds and grants to restore the building, which now houses Cranbury’s Town Hall. The Cranbury School was built in 1896 for use by elementary-age children in Cranbury. The school cost a little more than $7,000 to build, and it opened with an enrollment of 159 students. A new school was built in 1968. In 1966 a group of residents formed the Save the Old School Committee to prevent the demolition of the then 70-year-old school.
