East Windsor to Sponsor New Year’s Food Drive

Food may be dropped off at the East Windsor Municipal Building, Police Building, and East Windsor Rescue Squad District 2 until Jan. 31

Beginning Jan. 1, East Windsor Township will sponsor its month-long “New Year’s Food Drive,” aimed at helping local individuals and families in need, according to a news release from the township. The township will accept non-perishable food items through the end of the month at the East Windsor Township Municipal Building during regular business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and anytime at the East Windsor Police Department or at the East Windsor Rescue Squad, District 2.  “As the holiday season and its special focus on good deeds passes, we want to remind everyone that the need for assistance to people in our area continues, and call upon our community’s proven spirit of generosity,” said East Windsor Mayor Janice Mironov. “As we …

Rise Recognized For Its Charitable Efforts

The organization received a $1,000 grant through the Wells Fargo Community Partners Program

Wells Fargo presented a $1,000 grant to Rise: A Community Service Partnership, the corporation announced in a press release this week. The donation was among 130 made to organizations throughout central and southern New Jersey through the Wells Fargo Community Partners Program. Local Wells Fargo branch managers explore the needs of their local communities and make a $1,000 contribution on behalf of the company to the nonprofit of their choice. 10 Girls Graduate from Safe Dates Program

The girls wore dresses provided by the 14th District Princess Prom Project.

Rise, a Community Service Partnership, graduated ten girls from the Safe Dates Program on March 20 at Kreps Middle School, according to a news release. The graduates put on a short skit illustrating lessons they learned in the 10-session program, which includes lessons on defining caring relationships, defining dating abuse, why people abuse, how to help friends, helping friend, overcoming gender stereotypes, equal power through communication, how we feel/how we deal and preventing sexual assault, according to the release. 'RISE to the TASK' Community Dinner Provides Hot Meals Weekly

100 hot meals are served to Hightstown and East Windsor residents.

The “RISE to the TASK” community dinner is in full swing and serving one hundred hot meals weekly. But it’s more than just a dinner, according Gail Zelenak who coordinates volunteers for the dinner and has been volunteering at RISE volunteer for about five years.  “It feels so good, if you were to walk into the dining hall there’s happiness,” Zelenak said. Books and toys are given out to children, a piano plays and people congregate, and community groups donate different things weekly for the dinner. Eet Gud Bakery in Hamilton provided bread, Danishes and rolls, a Girl Scout troop created placemats for the tables and Mt Olivet Baptist Church in Hightstown made casserole dishes and sent the hot food over in addition to the dinner TASK …

Rise Receives Donations From Girl Scouts

Rise: A Community Service Partnership recently received 10 boxes of donations full of stuffed animals, books and pajamas from Girl Scout Troops #71986 and #70761. The girl scouts put up posters and collected items for the Rise Martin Luther King Sleepy Time Drive at the West Windsor Village School. Donations will be given to low-income families with children in the Hightstown-East Windsor Area, according to Rise. The drive collects items including pajamas, toothbrushes, toothpaste, stuffed animals and books.

Many people contributed to the Thanksgiving baskets RISE distributed.

Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated by everyone. For me I am blessed with a wonderful family and a job that makes people joyful this season. Working at Rise-a Community Service Partnership this Thanksgiving was inspirational because so many reached out to help struggling families. Although the list is long and I am sure I am missing a few important people, I would like to recognize some important contributors to the Rise Food Pantry this holiday. Without the coordination of the Rise team, Mercer Street Friends, our volunteers and many individuals, companies civic and religious groups we would not be able to provide baskets to hundreds of families.
